Dear Reader,
For Fork Apple Press’ first newsletter of 2025, the three of us — Vivian, Katie, and Nico — wish to share a concise yet holistic overview of the upcoming year, so that you may look ahead alongside us and share in our enthusiasm. We couldn’t be more excited for all that’s in store for 2025!
We have had the delight of concluding 2024 by reading an abundance of chapbook submissions for The Slice Poetry Chapbook Contest. We are beyond grateful to all of the poets who have trusted us with their work. The deadline to submit your chapbook for consideration has been extended to 1 week from today, January 7 at 11:59pm. The winning poet selected for publication will be announced in February. We will have the honor of adding their chapbook to our personal bookshelves, and it will be available for you to add to yours upon its publication, the date of which is slated for the end of February 2025.
From March 26-29, 2025, we look forward to meeting new and familiar faces at the AWP Bookfair in Los Angeles, California. The AWP Conference occupies a special place in Fork Apple history; the site of last year’s 2024 AWP Conference in Kansas City, Missouri is where the idea for our press was first conceived. To honor AWP’s unique significance to us, we will be opening ALL submissions for the entire month of March. This includes submissions for The Core Review as well as poetry chapbooks and short story collections for The Slice. We can’t wait for Fork Apple Press’ AWP debut this year and to connect with our writers and readers in person!
With the success of its inaugural issue, The Core Review has already far exceeded our dreams. We can’t wait to read, edit, design, curate, publish, and share Issue 2 come May and Issue 3 at the end of 2025 in November. The Core Review — always free to submit to — is officially open for poetry, prose, and visual narrative submissions for Issue 2, starting today, January 1st.
If you have a collection of fiction you’ve been tinkering at, keep us in mind come April. The Slice Short Story Collection Contest opens for submissions starting April 1st. We look forward to spending the early summer months reading manuscripts, with the collection selected for publication available for all to read in August!
Finally, our blog The Juice remains open year-round, publishing craft essays, book reviews, scholarly essays on literature, and literacy narratives, among other works that engage with topics related to all things literary.
Thank you for your support during our press’ launch last summer. We look forward to a fruitful 2025!
Sincerely,
Fork Apple Press
