Lord of the Fishes

ANNELISE ROYLES

Twisted knee
fish eye
jackpot cash

salt
so deep
in the throat

my father wants
his ashes
spread at sea

dorado bones’
waves hum
memory

a king becomes a swan
then summer’s cardinal
stardust

Cygnus’ belly
refracts every current
that reaches me

ANNELISE ROYLES is a novice poet whose work is also burrowed in Artemis and Bicoastal Review. She is from Los Angeles, currently lives in Baltimore, and thanks you for reading this corner of her heart.
