Dear Reader,

May is a big month for Fork Apple Press!

Coming May 15th, we’re excited to feature our first essay on The Juice Blog, a piece written by AE Abitz on the ways that identity has been emphasized in the modern poetry collection.

Later in the month, we’ll be launching Issue 2 of The Core Review, comprised of over 25 contributors working in a variety of forms: flash prose, experimental poetry, collage-style visual narrative, and braided prose, among others. Themes of consumption and hunger, transformation and the body, and kinship and decay wind through the issue, pushed further by motifs of trash, bread, and the uncanny.

The Juice Blog will feature an essay by AE Abitz: “Window to the Self: Excavating Identity in Contemporary Poetry,” to be published on May 15th.

Submissions Open

The Slice Short Story Contest

Submissions Period: Open until June 30, 2025

Submit short story collections 150-250 pages in length, with a total of at least five stories.

The contest winner will receive an award of $500, 10 author copies, and 25% profits on book sales.
